FOUNDATION: FS1 & FS2

As the first accredited ‘Curiosity Approach’ setting in the UAE our Early Years specialists understand and value the importance of a holistic approach to child development. In the Foundation Stage at SES the curriculum is planned and resourced to ignite the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in a secure atmosphere, one in which they feel valued.

Teachers work collaboratively to provide opportunities, both within the indoor and outdoor learning environments, for children to learn through investigative play.

Teachers spend their time observing and interacting with each child to get to know the children's interests and next steps in learning. Spending this time in one-to-one situations enables teachers to provide personalised teaching strategies that support each child.

The learning spaces in Foundation are well resourced and planned to ensure pupils learn through personal interest. The children learn the importance of independence and how they can take charge of their own learning. Over the course of the Foundation stage, we work closely with our families to develop confident and curious learners ready for the next stage in their education.

INFANTS: Y1 & Y2

Spark a lifelong love of learning in our vibrant Infant Department. Stimulating and enriching lessons challenge the children but also allow them to take risks with their learning encouraging development as 21st century learners.

We provide a safe and supportive environment for the children to excel in academic attainment and flourish as happy individuals.

We provide a safe and supportive environment for the children to excel in academic attainment and flourish as happy individuals, developing confidence, communication, and empathy towards others.

There is an increasing emphasis placed on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, whilst classes also enjoy a child centred approach to learning and see a real purpose to everything they do. We further enhance the children’s experience through themed days and educational trips to venues such as Green Planet, Dubai Fire Station and Sharjah Astronomy Centre.

We have outstanding facilities. The department is characterised by bright and airy classrooms, with shared learning zones that allow the children to further develop their natural curiosity and independence through independent challenges.

Walking down the hallway, there is a ‘buzz’ of excitement as children become architects in the construction area, authors in creative writing, and everything from story tellers on the mini stage to astronauts in the role play area.

By the end of their time in Infants, we ensure that all children are prepared educationally, with a developed sense of responsibility, and ready to enter the next milestone in their education journey, the middle school.

THE MIDDLE SCHOOL: Y3 & Y4

The Middle School is filled with opportunity, excitement and a passion to succeed. We strive to nurture and develop well-rounded, capable and caring individuals who have the skills, knowledge and attitudes to lead a rich and fulfilling life.

Our aim is to provide children in Years 3 and 4 with an excellent education in a caring and enriching environment. We believe that a passion for learning and willingness to succeed are key factors in your child’s success at school.

In addition to the core mainstream British Curriculum subjects, specialist lessons are delivered by subject teachers in Arabic, P.E. and Music. Muslim pupils also have Islamic Studies lessons. Regular field trips are organised to support and reinforce the curriculum, as well as widening the learning experiences we offer.

In line with our school Learner Profile, we encourage confidence, responsibility and resilience in all our students, and it is our aim to ensure that children may achieve their full potential.

Through differentiated lessons, every student is allocated tasks and assignments appropriate to their level of development and students are monitored consistently to inform teachers of successful changes to their developmental levels. Children are encouraged to become more independent and take ownership of their actions, learning and behaviour.

Through a positive behaviour programme, we promote self-awareness and foster feelings of empathy and understanding among our students. Kindness and respect are essential elements of the atmosphere created in our classes.

THE UPPER SCHOOL: Y5 & Y6

Within the Upper School, we promote a powerful sense of independence, students take pride in their achievements, which are celebrated accordingly.

The curriculum is innovative, rigorous, and appropriate to a 21st Century learning environment aiming towards the key requirements of mastery, including an ever-increasing depth and breadth.

As well as highly valuing and advancing what could be considered traditional core learning requirements, our students also actively use the most up to date technology preparing them for an ever-changing society. Students use online platforms to access and complete tasks related to the curriculum and their future needs.

Years 5 and 6 students are encouraged to take initiative and responsibility for their own education, and to become increasingly resilient and confident members of the community. Alongside the academic expectations, we strive to provide opportunities that allow individuals to develop holistically and be ready to meet the challenges of their future. We feel it is essential to teach children real-life skills leading to an increased level of personal and social intelligence, exercising an array of traits which are guided by the SES Learner Profile.

All students are encouraged to embrace leadership roles and to set an example to the younger members of our community.

All students are encouraged to embrace leadership roles and to set an example to the younger members of our community, through House Captaincy, or by becoming Sports Leaders and Student Leaders. We hope that our Year 6 graduates will discover their strengths and will be self-confident, self-disciplined, and equipped with a growth mindset as they move on to the challenge of Secondary school.
