ENRICHMENT
The holistic education offered by Sharjah English School has always provided exciting opportunities for co-curricular learning. We have an ECA programme that gives students a real choice of activities throughout the school year. A key question we always ask ourselves is ‘how can this be improved?’.
To have a broad and exciting enrichment programme requires a carefully thought out strategic plan for enrichment - one that maximises the opportunity for all students of all ages and abilities. For us, enrichment comprises our ECA programme, educational visits and enriched opportunities for service learning, active learning and creative learning.
We believe that students taking part in activities outside of the classroom is so much more than just the ECA programme.

Show Courage and Celebrate Community is the phrase that encapsulates the educational experience we strive for in every child in the Secondary School. Everybody in the Secondary School at SES strives to ensure that not only does every child reach their academic potential but just as importantly they are allowed to experience as holistic an education as possible.
We wish to create an atmosphere within the school that encourages every child in our care to move beyond their comfort zone, try something new and above all, have a fun and enriching time whilst doing it.
SES is a place where anything is possible and within the school we have an abundance of creative, sporting and service endeavours. We would encourage every student to try as many different enrichment experiences as possible during their time at SES. Some of these will hopefully then develop into lifelong passions that help ensure a positive growth mindset where dreams can indeed become reality.
As a school we are continually striving to be as sustainable as possible and above all we aim to inspire positive, socially responsible global citizens who understand that local actions can have global effects. Above all, it is vital that our students understand that however small, their individual actions can have positive effects both within their community as well as the world beyond the school gates. SES is a safe, secure environment so to ensure that students do develop their own independent living skills, we encourage students in the Secondary School to take part in the many educational visits that occur throughout their time here. Every opportunity is open to all, - all we would ask is that your children volunteer for the ride!
Everything is possible at SES, students just need to take the chance and try something new. |
We offer a wide range of teacher-led extra-curricular activities and clubs to all students, after school, Monday to Thursday. Students are expected to attend at least two school clubs every term. Many students also participate in inter-House sporting competitions after school.
We aim to offer something for everyone, and encourage students to pick a range of ECAs both to develop existing skills and to develop new skills and unearth hitherto unknown talents and abilities. Our ECA offerings therefore cover a wide range of interests, including sports & fitness, mindfulness, the creative and performing arts, literature, programming, science and Academic Societies.
At times the school links up with outside providers to increase the range of activities on offer. Karate, gymnastics, dance, cricket, tennis, climbing, diving, and many more, have all been offered by outside professionals, either on the school site or elsewhere. Such external provision is usually charged for additionally.
Camps, Expeditions & Community Service |
---|
In addition to regular clubs and activities, there are ample opportunities for students to become involved in community service and charity work, expeditions and camps. Year 7-9 can take part in an overnight leadership trip, which is an invaluable way to build independence and self-reliance. Such trips introduce the children to challenging activities like rock-climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, etc. In Year 10, these skills can be utilised and channelled into the International (Duke of Edinburgh) Award, where cooking and navigation skills are also added. The IA also includes a service and skill component. This programme has a pronounced effect on the students’ maturity and growing sense of responsibility. |
International Trips |
Throughout each school year, the secondary school offers overseas trips for curriculum and sporting purposes, and to fulfil the requirements of the International Gold Award. In recent years we have taken a Geography trip to Sri Lanka, a trip to Borneo, ski trips, IA expeditions to the Seychelles and Georgia, a history trip to Russia, an art and design tour to Barcelona, and a trip for drama, art and design students to London. Our more skilled musicians also travel to the Young Musicians of the Gulf competition each year. |
Music Tuition |
Musical instrument tuition can be arranged through the school and is available for piano, violin, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, trumpet, trombone, and drums. Singing tuition is also offered. Other tuition for other instruments may also be organised on request. Those students who favour rock music also have opportunities to showcase their talents. |
