SIXTH FORM
YEAR 12 & 13: KEY STAGE 5
The final two years, 12 and 13, are the pre-University years. SES offers a flexible Advanced Levels (A Levels) programme where students choose between a two, three or four A Level pathway to enable them to reach the University of their choice, depending on their interests and future career plans. A Levels are a two-year internationally recognised programme. All A Level examinations are sat at the end of Year 13 after the full two years of study.
In addition to completing A Levels, students are strongly encouraged to participate in a range of enrichment activities aimed at bolstering their personal profile and equipping them for life after Sixth Form. Students have the opportunity to pursue externally accredited courses such as the EPQ qualification and Ivy House award, engage in MOOCs and essay competitons, attend external lectures and workshops, actively participate in volunteering and take on leadership roles.
Students benefit from a flexible approach to activity selection, ensuring a personalised and we-rounded educational experience. Students also receive dedicated support for university applications, including guidance on personal statements, interview preparation, and navigating the application process to maximise their chances of securing placements at top-tier institutions around the world.

We take great pride in our longstanding history of academic excellence, supported by outstanding results that enable our students to thrive in competitive courses around the world. The overwhelming majority (89%) secure their top choice UK university, with students securing places in highly competitive courses offered by prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics for Economics, University College London for Biochemical Engineering, and Imperial College London for Design Engineering.
Their talents shine across a range of fields, including Architecture at the University of Manchester, Law at the University of Warwick, Comparative Literature and Cultures at the University of Bristol, and Biochemistry at King's College London. Additionally, our commitment to nurturing their potential is evident in their pursuits of cutting-edge disciplines such as Robotics, Mechatronics, and Control Engineering at Loughborough University, as well as in the medical sciences with placements at renowned institutions like St. George's University of London.
Beyond the UK, our students also make their mark on the global stage by securing places at leading universities worldwide. They have secured places in Physics at UC Berkeley, Business Administration and Management at Boston University, Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, Aerospace Engineering at Purdue University, Pre-Med at Wayne State University, and Organismal Biology at Auburn University, setting the stage for inspiring academic journeys and showcasing their diverse interests. Our Sixth Form community is truly a hub of talent and ambition, and we couldn't be prouder to watch them flourish as alumni, making their mark on the world.
