The Secondary Journey

THE SECONDARY
JOURNEY

While the importance of academic education is emphasised our students are also encouraged to achieve their best in the areas of creative, social, physical, emotional, moral and spiritual development.

YEARS 7, 8 & 9: KEY STAGE 3

During the first three years our students are provided with a challenging, vibrant and nurturing environment that enables each individual to flourish.

While the importance of academic education is emphasised our students are also encouraged to achieve their best in the areas of creative, social, physical, emotional, moral and spiritual development. We believe in promoting knowledge wherever it may occur, since this is the principle of a holistic education.

YEARS 10 & 11: KEY STAGE 4

Students in Years 10 and 11 study a two year course: the I/GCSE (International/General Certificate of Secondary Education) programme. The world’s most popular international certification for 14-16 year olds, the British programme culminates in a set of externally assessed examinations after two years of study at the end of Year 11.

These exams provide a solid foundation for the next stage of their education - the pre-university course of A Level Examinations.

We provide a safe and supportive environment for the children to excel in academic attainment and flourish as happy individuals.

YEAR 12 & 13: KEY STAGE 5

The final two years, 12 and 13, are the pre-University years. SES offers a flexible Advanced Levels (A Levels) programme where students choose between a two, three or four A Level  pathway to enable them to reach the University of their choice, depending on their interests and future career plans. A Levels are a two-year internationally recognised programme. All A Level examinations are sat at the end of Year 13 after the full two years of study.

In addition to completing A Levels, students are strongly encouraged to participate in a range of enrichment activities aimed at bolstering their personal profile and equipping them for life after Sixth Form. Students have the opportunity to pursue externally accredited courses such as the EPQ qualification and Ivy House award, engage in MOOCs and essay competitons, attend external lectures and workshops, actively participate in volunteering and take on leadership roles.

Students benefit from a flexible approach to activity selection, ensuring a personalised and we-rounded educational experience. Students also receive dedicated support for university applications, including guidance on personal statements, interview preparation, and navigating the application process to maximise their chances of securing placements at top-tier institutions around the world.

I have so many fond memories of SES. It has given me lifelong friends and I was so lucky to be surrounded by some of the most supportive teachers.
